Advocates Fight to Defend the Flores Settlement Agreement as the Trump Administration Seeks to Terminate Protections for Children Amidst Harrowing Stories from Children in Detention

WHAT

On June 2nd, Flores counsel will argue before the Ninth Circuit against the government’s attempt to terminate the Flores Settlement Agreement - the primary safeguard against abuse, neglect, and prolonged imprisonment of immigrant children.

WHO:

Attorneys from the Center for Human Rights and Constitutional Law, the National Center for Youth Law, and Children's Rights.

WHEN:

1:30 pm (Pacific Time)

WHERE:

1051 6th Ave, Seattle, WA 98104, William K. Nakamura Courthouse, 5th Floor, Courtroom 3

WHY:

The Trump Administration is seeking to end Flores Settlement protections altogether. If the Flores Settlement is terminated, children will likely be detained for months or even years in unlicensed facilities under deplorable conditions – causing irreparable harm to their physical and mental health and placing their lives at risk. Attorneys from the above-listed organizations are fighting to safeguard the Flores Settlement.

VISUALS/INTERVIEW OPPORTUNITIES:

Interviews will be accommodated outside the courthouse with Carlos Holguin, Center for Human Rights and Constitutional Law.
