A coalition of immigrants’ rights organizations participated today in a public hearing held by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) that examined widespread and escalating human rights and refugee law violations inflicted by the Trump administration in the immigration context.

Over the weekend, Flores Counsel filed an opposition to the federal government’s motion to terminate the Flores Settlement Agreement (FSA), the landmark court order that protects immigrant children from prolonged detention and inhumane conditions while in federal custody.

Flores Counsel yesterday evening filed a motion to enforce the Settlement, citing the government’s prolonged detention of children, which has compounded the harm of other ongoing violations.

May 22, 2025 – Today, the Trump administration filed a motion to terminate the Flores Settlement Agreement, which for years has set the standards for the humane treatment of immigrant children in government custody, many of whom arrive seeking refuge and protection. The motion recycles many of the arguments that have been brought forward by the federal government — and rejected by courts — multiple times.

Fifteen immigrants’ rights organizations have submitted urgent reports to the United Nations and Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, raising the alarm over systematic and grave human rights violations against migrants and asylum-seekers by the U.S. government during the first months of the Trump-Vance administration.

This month, more than 200 civil rights groups, legal advocacy organizations, and human rights defenders across the country - including the Center for Human Rights and Constitutional Law - came together to issue a joint statement denouncing President Trump’s memorandum, Preventing Abuses of the Legal System and the Federal Court.
